Artist's Description
An American Civil War cannon watches over the battlefield from a United States Union Army battle line position at sunset at Gettysburg National Military Park in Pennsylvania
I had spent a whole day respectfully photographing and documenting some of the many monuments at the revered historic site and the long day was drawing to a close. I was quickly loosing light and it was time for me to finally pack my gear. I stopped on South Hancock Avenue for one last look while the sun was disappearing behind the clouds. Not a glorious sunset as I was hoping to capture, but a pale glow in a rather stormy and dramatic sky. So I pulled my tripod and my camera from the car one more time and set it up near this old cannon overlooking the battleground. This was my last photograph of the day, a final glorious tribute to this somber but now peacefully magnificent site of our American history. My farewell to Gettysburg.
